FEIN HAS been developing innovative solutions for everyday use by industry and manual trades for over 150 years, and now offers a wide-range of power tool products for use across many disciplines.
With deep and varied industry experience, FEIN’s team understand customer requirements and is renowned for innovation with a safety-first approach. The power tool specialist works closely with customers to gain a detailed understanding of the application and working considerations, in order to design solutions that offer performance and efficiency with no compromise on safety.
Last year, FEIN launched its high safety compact angle grinder, the Protago. The power tool was developed in partnership with Bouygues, the construction giant who had previously banned the use of compact angle grinders following a serious accident. By incorporating a variety of innovative safety features such as the non-removeable wheel guard and two-hand operation, the team was able to almost full eliminate the risk of injury through improper operation. The Protago features an integrated ‘AutoStop’ dead man’s switch and permanently mounted non-removable additional handle, and upon one hand being removed, power to the tool automatically disables; while its anti-kickback function detects any sudden movements, such as loss of control, and automatically shuts off.
Safety features incorporated into other product developments include: non-removable safeguards, abnormal movement protection, versatile hand-grip and anti-vibration handles. The team has also explored novel approaches to safety testing, for example, using the Ironhand glove to conduct rigorous testing and identify the most suitable handle positions for its safety angle grinder.
Andy Mills, managing director at FEIN UK said, “We are pleased to be bringing our wider team to the Health and Safety Event this year, and invite visitors to join us on stand 3/J53, to see our tools in action and understand the safety developments currently transforming industry practices. At FEIN, we are really pleased to be collaborating with companies and users to help them adhere to safer working practices, and the event is a great place to meet similar-minded safety enthusiasts and share our individual experiences.”
