10m hours incident free

Staff at Hertel, the Middlesbrough-based multi-discipline construction and maintenance services company, have achieved the safety milestone of 10 million hours worked without a lost-time incident since January 2012.

The majority of Hertel's 2,350 staff work in hazardous environments such as oil and gas refineries, chemical plants and nuclear sites throughout the UK & Republic of Ireland where safe working practices are crucial.

Chris Abbey, Hertel UK and Ireland’s Head of Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (HSEQ), says: "Reaching 10m hours is a real team effort. It is recognition of the commitment of everyone within the business to take an active role in HSEQ.

"Throughout the year we had received numerous safety awards from our customers in recognition of our team’s approach to work. Last year we were also honoured with RoSPA’s Order of Distinction which is awarded after achieving 15 Gold awards as well as being recipients of a British Safety Council Sword of Honour.”
