Construction materials supplier Aggregate Industries has launched its largest ever roll out of formal weighbridge operations training.
The six month programme will see 360 colleagues undertake an intensive training programme covering health and safety, haulier management and customer service skills. Aggregate Industries has invested almost half a million pounds in the course.
The two-day course, followed up with workplace assessments, will culminate in participants achieving a Level 3 Diploma in Weighbridge Operations, awarded by the Mineral Products Qualification Council.
The programme includes a mix of classroom based activities, practical exercises and group tasks and covers a range of topics, including communication skills, customer service skills, dealing with difficult enquiries, assessing and controlling risk, site inductions, driver/haulier management, hazards, vehicle routing and compliance.
Training is taking place in small groups at various Aggregate Industries locations across the UK, in partnership with ISMM-accredited training provider Growth Engineering.
David Butterfield, head of learning and development for Aggregate Industries, said: “Undertaking a training exercise on this scale is no mean feat. Weighbridge employees are often seeing more customers in a 24 hour period than our team of sales people. It was therefore important for us, as a business, to recognise this and provide the necessary support to ensure our people feel fully-equipped to deliver the high standards of customer service and health and safety demanded on site. In order to achieve this, we invited a number of our site colleagues to join a steering group, to help shape the training programme and ensure it truly adds value to those attending.”
