Colas has been awarded a Fleet Safety Award in the annual Fleet World Honours for its long-term commitment to raising awareness and managing occupational road risk amongst its employees.
Colas re-launched its Safer Attitudes in Driving campaign as SAID+ in 2015, building on the success of its predecessor, SAID, which started in 2002.
The main objective of SAID and SAID+ has been to reduce the risk of road-related injuries by instilling the fundamental belief that all vehicle incidents are avoidable through a consistent annual training programme, monitoring of company vehicle incident frequency and community involvement initiatives.
The campaign targets all employees within the company and raises awareness to improve staff safety regardless of whether they drive a company vehicle or not. Since 2002 as a result of the campaign, Colas’ road incident frequency rate has dropped significantly.
Colas also plans to share its SAID+ campaign model with road safety teams in the public sector and has already begun sharing information on SAID+ as sponsor and active participant at annual conferences of Road Safety GB and on the Road Safety Knowledge Centre.
The Fleet Safety Award was presented on Tuesday 19 April 2016 at The Royal Automobile Club in London by RoadSafe, a charitable partnership which brings together private sector with government and road safety professionals.
The Fleet World Honours recognise innovation amongst fleet suppliers as well as awarding the best new cars and fleet managers in the areas of Environment, Safety and Management.
