Junction boxes for hazardous areas

For high power applications in hazardous areas, Hawke International has introduced a new range of high capacity, environmentally protected, boxes for cable termination. These enclosures meet the need of offshore drilling and production, marine and other challenging environments.

This addition to the Hawke stainless steel junction box range permits up to 12 x 400mm2 cable terminations per bus-bar. Units can be flexibly configured for single phase and Earth, three-phase and Earth or three-phase/neutral and Earth. Units are fully ATEX approved and IECEx compliant.

Developed specifically for harsh marine environments, the heavy gauge grade 316 stainless steel enclosures will resist salt and chemical contamination. Heavy duty base plates give ample room for cable entry and the installation of cable glands.

Compression controlled silicone sponge gaskets to base plate and lid provide an effective environmental seal so that enclosures meet IP66 standard. Base plates are supplied pre-drilled to accept Hawke cable glands.

A flexible answer to high power demands, each copper bus-bar has the capacity to carry up to 2500 amps per phase and can handle voltages of 7.2Kv between phases.

For ease of cable installation there are crimp connections to each bus bar and the boxes have been extensively tested by accredited test bodies to short circuit currents of up to 100kA for one second.
