Lightning protection

If you’ve bought or installed lightning protection in the UK anytime in the last 30 years then there’s a good chance you have ended up with a flat conductor sized at 25x3mm.

This has been the historical ‘go to’ size of choice with a total cross section area (CSA) of 75mm. The British standard however requires a CSA of just 50mm which can far more easily be achieved by using 8mm circular conductor, a choice that has long been the standard in Europe.

More akin to MICC cable (Pyro) this alternative size has many benefits apart from the obvious one of being 33% less material to purchase. Unlike flat ‘tape’ style conductors, round 8mm can be bent through any plane to achieve results unthinkable in flat tape and when it comes to drilling holes to accommodate it, a much smaller 9.5mm hole is required rather than the 26mm minimum, you would need with tape.

DEHN (UK) Ltd has a full range of 8mm conductors, in aluminium, copper or steel that fully comply to all IEC, EN and BS requirements.
