Building products manufacturer Catnic has re-launched its LoadSafe platforms in a bid to help reduce the risk of falling and subsequent injury when loading on busy construction sites.
The LoadSafe LS8 platform is designed and built specifically as a response to the number of injuries that are caused by working at height. Between 2013 and 2014 there were 1,900 major injuries in the construction industry, falls from heights accounted for 31% of these, with the figure for fatal accidents even higher at 45%.
Based on extensive consultations with site managers and lorry drivers, the LoadSafe platform is designed as a response to the high number of injuries, it provides a safe and easy access to trailer bed vehicles. The lightweight and robust structure is manufactured using cold-formed steel sections and can be easily manoeuvred on site to ensure that safety is at the forefront of all processes. Adjustable feet and water filled ballast tanks provide a counterbalance weight that helps to maintain a stable fixed ground unit.
LoadSafe eliminates dangerous gaps between the lorry and the platform; the platform glides into position on two sealed linear bearings and is secured using a spring-loaded bolt, which positions it right next to the bed of the lorry’s trailer. To ensure extra on site safety the surface of the platform is designed to include a small chamber to ensure that water drains off the side, rather than causing a hazardous puddle on the walkway.
Kevin Wilkinson, Product Manager at LoadSafe said: "Major falls from height are the biggest percentage of accidents on site, therefore the industry really needs a practical solution to help drive these figures down. The LoadSafe platform is the solution for this, after looking at common issues that both lorry drivers and site managers come across, we have produced a platform that has minimal set up, can be easily moved and, above all, offers the highest level of safety for users.”
