An Aberdeen-based company that provides offshore accommodation solutions has unveiled a new product which is designed to improve steward health and safety offshore.
Aiken Group’s new “rise and fall” bed allows maximum use of a small space thanks to a combination of creative design and cutting edge technology.
The system features an automated upper bunk bed which enables stewards to lower the bed and change linen and mattresses without the need to work at height, significantly reducing the risk of injury and therefore lost time injury (LTI). In addition, the bed can remain in the lower position for rig crew on back-to-back shifts, negating the need for access and egress through bunk ladders.
Aiken Group MD Danny Donald said: “This bed was originally developed as part of our ‘Room in a Box’ offshore accommodation solution and has been warmly received in that market. The system’s focus on health and safety means that it is an attractive option in the drive to reduce LTIs offshore.”
