Safety initiative

Forest management and timber harvesting company UPM Tilhill has organised five events across the UK to reinforce the company’s commitment to health and safety as part of its ‘Insist of Safety’ programme.

Managers and key contractors will take part in workshops and learn about the latest initiatives. The company believes that safety starts at the top and it is with this in mind that each event is additionally attended by at least one Director. During the week, UPM Tilhill will be celebrating achieving zero lost time accidents for employees during 2013 – the best results ever recorded.

UPM Tilhill has won multiple, national awards from RoSPA for its commitment to health and safety. Recently, UPM Tilhill’s excellent safety achievements also received global recognition from parent company UPM when they were invited to join UPM’s Front Runners Club.

The forest industry is one of the most dangerous sectors in which to work in the UK. In the five years up to March 2012, there was an average of 10.4 fatalities per 100,000 workers.
