ceremony, a national event focused

at work for people employed in the
UK wire industries.
The company's winning
presentation was a working
solution for the safe storage of rod
and coil wire, the coil cradle.
Initial trials using 2t concrete
temporary motorway barriers to
contain the coils, found that the
lateral force moved them 50mm to
each side when left overnight.
Further trials using a base plate
welded to the underside of the
barrier allowed the weight of the
coils to hold the barrier firmly in
place. The cradle was modified to
include nesting tabs, floor fixing
points and safety yellow paint to
prevent trip hazards.
Managing director Neil
Stewardson said: "Since the
installation of the coil cradles there
have been no accidents and no
reported near misses involving
movement of coils."
